Announcement for the Agriculture and Climate Smart Agriculture Specialist (Short-Term Consultant)
The International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group (WBG), is looking to recruit the Agriculture and Climate Smart Agriculture Specialist, as a short-term consultant, to help develop and implement Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) technologies across IFC Europe Region.
Specifically, the Consultant shall work with Management and Project team to undertake the following tasks:
- Conduct necessary research and data analysis on climate smart agriculture related matters
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, recommendations and support the development, and implementation of Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) technologies across IFC Europe Region (Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, and Ukraine) in various agriculture subsectors including crops, livestock, aquaculture, forestry and irrigation
- Adapt various CSA farming practices to the specific needs and contexts of different countries in the region
- Develop and update CSA impact calculators to quantify the environmental and economic benefits of adopting CSA practices.
- Contributing to financial product design to financial intermediaries and other creditors, concept note writing and providing assessments and evidence-based field data
- Work closely with the team to conclude the development of the CSA cost and benefit analysis, payback period calculations, breakeven points for CSA investments
- Support the strengthening of partnership and linkages with public and private institutions that generate relevant information and technologies that support CSA including
- Demonstrate and articulate costs and benefits, usage of technology, to both farmers and financial intermediaries, to advance awareness, demand, and adoption of the CSA technology
- Prepare training materials, slides and deliver training to creditors, farmers, and other stakeholders
- Provide expertise to agriculture finance and food security initiatives in the region
DURATION AND LENGTH OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The length of this assignment is estimated at 50 working days between July 1, 2023 till December 31, 2023. Contract is available for renewal subject to project need and performance.
JOB LOCATION: countries of the Europe Region (Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo).
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in agronomy, agricultural or climate sciences.
- Additional qualifications and extent and relevant experience in working in the field of agriculture and with deep understanding of climate smart agriculture concepts, natural resource management, irrigation will be a strong advantage.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in the agricultural industry, state authority, or development agency, with a focus on agricultural data management and systems integration.
- Practical experience working with farmers on climate-smart agriculture (CSA) initiatives within the region, demonstrating a strong understanding of local agricultural practices and challenges.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the on-going policy issues in the areas of Agriculture, Rural Development and Climate Change.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills in climate related affairs and agriculture.
- Sufficient knowledge of financial market in overall and in-depth understanding of operations, internal policies and procedure of local financial institutions.
- Understanding of the agriculture finance and insurance sector, its legal framework and major stakeholders.
- Ability to work flexibly and under deadline pressure at times on a range of assignments, and adjust to and prioritize a variety of complex evolving tasks.
- Ability to provide professional support to the team.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment.
- Excellent written/communication skills in English is essential, other European languages would be advantage.
- Readiness to carry out visits to project sites, conduct analysis, deliver training and duty travel as required.
