Communications Manager
OVERVIEW:
Global Communities is an international development non-profit organization. Our mission is to create long-lasting, positive and community-led change that improves the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable people across the globe.
Global Communities is seeking an Communications Manager for the USAID-funded Up to Youth Activity, which will address youth vulnerable to social exclusion by mobilizing and engaging youth in meaningful ways to effect positive change. Up to Youth commenced its activities on April 2019 and works in nine selected municipalities in Kosovo to mobilize youth to be forces for positive change. The following are the three specific objectives of Up to Youth:
Objective 1: Mobilizes youth to be forces for positive change by focusing on identifying, recognizing and bringing together vulnerable youth who have the potential and will for positive change.
Objective 2: Develops and demonstrates life/soft skills among youth by preparing youth with the necessary skills to engage in meaningful ways and play active roles in their municipal and/or national economy.
Objective 3: Develops, builds and supports resilience partners in fostering an environment for youth to engage in a positive and meaningful way.
Responsibilities:
Based in Pristina, the Communications Manager will be responsible for developing communications materials to support program activities. More specifically, the Communications Manager will:
- Manage program communications, including, success stories, press releases, promotional events, social media digital content, and other internal and external program communications;
- Create, organize, manage and deliver to the donor all program’s digital content for social media and online presence, including but not limited to YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram;
- Manage translation with the translation company for program documents and consecutive / simultaneous translations at meetings as needed between English, Albanian and Serbian;
- Act as first point of contact for PR and Media for the project;
- Manage and organize media for SCF initiatives and for the project;
- Manager subordinates;
- Support the drafting of annual work plan, weekly, quarterly and annual programmatic reports, in accordance with USAID guidelines and formats;
- Develop the in-country communications/media outreach strategy;
- Responsible for ensuring that requests for all communications about the project and use of the USAID name and/or logo by Global Communities or our partners are aligned with the approved Branding & Marking Plan;
- Build capacity of Partners, including hands-on support, to adequately meet the branding and communication needs of the program;
- Build capacity, support, and manage all of Social Change Fund youth-led initiatives, including hands-on support, to adequately meet communication needs for all initiatives, including their campaigns conducted in social media and printed materials;
- Participate in coordination meetings as requested;
- Reports to Chief of Party and performs other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter etc;
- Proficiency on Adobe Premiere pro, Canvas, Animoto, or other creative application and software to create social media content;
- Ability to write clear, concise and articulate program reports and communications materials in both Albanian and English with minimal oversight and editing;
- General knowledge on in-country important campaign themes that are a part of the National Strategy and those of USAID’s Country Development Cooperation Strategy;
- Strong writing and creative skills;
- Ability to develop and carry out work plans and solve problems independently;
- Attention to detail;
- Self-motivated and able to meet tight deadlines;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Comfortable with team-oriented approach to work, preferably in a multi-cultural setting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Development or relevant discipline;
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience with donor reporting and communications;
- Previous experience supporting a USAID-funded project preferred;
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Albanian required;
- Fluency in other local language preferred.
